Etosha National Park - Elephant & Lion

This morning we decided to do an early morning drive searching the eastern side of the park. The drive started really well with an abundance of game such as Kudu, Giraffe, Dik Diks and a large elephant bull grazing next to the road soon after entering the park.

We stopped at selected waterholes as me made our way further west and found a large single lioness walking away from the Chudop waterhole. She was showing the obvious signs of recently have eaten and was very happy just to relax in the early morning sun.

Etosha National Park - Lion

Today was ruled by lions. We found a single male lion relaxing in the shade near Klein Namutoni waterhole. He was very close to the road but not very active so we continued on our safari. The best sighting of the day came as we approached Gemsbokvalkte waterhole. From a distance we could see two adult lionesses walking towards the waterhole. We were able to positional ourselves to great views as they walked right past our vehicle and drink. After about 30 min they left the waterhole the same direction as they arrived which gave us even better views as they made their way back into the thick bush.

Anderssons Camp - Black Rhino

After dinner we watched a single black rhino come and drink at the camps flood light waterhole. The Rhino was a bit unsure about the environment and moved away quickly.

Peters Pools Aba-Huab - Desert Elephants

Today we had an exciting search for the desert adapted elephant. We started our search at De Riet where we found one set of tracks heading west down the river. We followed the tracks only to find the tracks and signs of the rest of the group. We eventually found 17 elephants grazing in the river just before the swamps and Peters Pools. They were relaxed and standing in the shade of the large Ana trees. We were able to move slowly past them enjoying the sighting. We were able to see a 6 month old baby as well as two 2 year olds having a pushing contest. We spent about an hour or so with the elephant before heading back to camp.
