Sossusvlei - Brown Hyena

We were extremely lucky this morning to spot a brown hyena feeding on a springbok carcass. The hyena moved away as we approached so we decided to leave the shy animal to his meal.

Aba-Huab - Desert Elephant

This morning we departed really early in search of the elusive desert adapted elephant. After a 2 hour search we started finding fresh tracks and eventually found a group of 19 elephants grazing in the area surrounding Peters Pools. We stayed with them for a while and watched a few youngsters playing in the mud.

Anderssons Camp - Black Rhino

Just after our main course we were pleasantly disturbed by two Black Rhino as they came to drink at the waterhole. After seeing they were very relaxed the lodge staff allowed us to silently move into the new viewing hide where we were able to watch the Rhinos drinking from only meters away. It was an amazing experience.

Etosha National Park

Our drive in the park today was one of the best drives I have ever had in the Park with many great sightings. The day started with two lionesses at the Ombika waterhole lying only a few meters from the parking area. After spending some time with them we continued further into the park to find a pride of lion and 12 young cubs at Gemsbokvlakte waterhole. Our luck only improved when we saw 2 male lions relaxing at Oilfantsbad waterhole. We made our way slowly towards the central part of the park were we found 2 more lionesses at Charisaub waterhole. They were lying in the shade of the large camelthorn next to the road protecting their zebra kill. We were able to get really close to them allowing for great photo opportunities. After a short lunch break we found a Black rhino around the Nuamsis waterhole. The best sighting of the day was a leopard 1 km from the Halali turn off. We spotted the leopard off to the side of the road walking through the grass. We were amazed how relaxed the leopard was and followed it for a while before the most amazing thing happened. As we were watching the leopard it stopped and approached the car. It walked right up the car and lay down in the shade of the vehicle. We watched in amazement as the leopard then climbed under the car and used the car as an advantage point for stalking. We were mesmerized by the behavior of the leopard and left speechless when the leopard finally left our car and moved off into the grass.

The icing on the cake for an amazing day and the end to an amazing safari was a huge heard of 52 elephants drinking and playing at the Ombika waterhole. What an amazing day.
